"Organic gardening techniques and products improve and support natural ecosystems. They work with nature's laws and systems and don't contaminate the soils, water and air. Toxic chemical fertilizers and pesticides, on the other hand, do contaminate them."
--Howard Garrett, Texas Gardening the Natural Way
Rabbit Hill Farms 4-3-2: A manure based fertilizer with poultry and rabbit manure, worm castings, humates, and greensand. A new favorite.
Texas Tee 6-2-4 by Maestro Gro: A meal-based fertilizer, good any time of year
Turf Mate 4-2-3 by Soil Mender: A poultry manure-based fertilizer with added humate, molasses, and other organic nutrients
Luscious Lawn & Garden 3-1-5 by Bradfield: A meal-based fertilizer, good for all lawn types, especially Centipede grass.
Azalea Food--It's not just for azaleas! With an excellent list of organic ingredients, this fertilizer is formulated for all "acid loving" plants; including berries and camellias.
Buds and Blooms--One of our favorite plant fertilizers. This plant food is formulated for anything that blooms. A light dusting is all that's needed, so a little goes a long way.
Foliar Plus--A liquid plant food containing fish, seaweed, humate, kelp, molasses, bio-stimulants. Feed the foliage or the roots (or both!)
Garrett Juice, Garrett Juice Plus--A liquid, compost based food for any and all plant types, including trees, shrubs, flowers, vegetables, even grass. It can be used to spray the foliage or drench the root zone. Every plant at Athens Organic receives a feeding with Garrett Juice.
Hasta Gro, by Medina--A natural replacement for Miracle Gro, this will feed your plants naturally, as opposed to force-feeding. They make one for plants, and one for lawns.
Rose Food--A combination of ingredients that is good for all types of roses.
Tomato Pepper Food--Tomatoes and peppers have similar nutrition requirements, so this makes for an excellent fertilizer. We use it on many other vegetables too.
B.T.--An abreviation for "bacillus thuringiensis", B.T. is a biological control for many types of worms and catipillars, including gypsy moths, borers, tent catipillars, bag worms, etc.
D.E.--An abreviation for "diatomaceous earth", D.E. is a powder made from the fossils of oceanic diatoms. It is a very hard powder that kills crawling insects by scratching their exoskelton and causing them to dehydrate and die. Ants won't cross a line of D.E.
Garlic Pepper Tea--An excellent insect repellant that works on a wide variety of insects.
Plant Oils--Surprisingly, there are many plant oils that kill insects, including oils from clove, sesame, thyme, geranium, rosemary, etc. Our plant-oil-based products are great "multi-insect killers". Be very careful, because you can harm beneficial insects too.
Spinosad--This comes from a ground-born fungus and kills a very wide variety of insects. Spinosad is a last resort product because it can kill beneficial insects, including bees.
Dry Molasses--A carbohydrate used as an amendment to feed and stimulate microorganisms. It also contains many trace minerals. Available in dry or liquid form.
Green Sand--An iron- and trace mineral-source used to boost mineral levels in soil. Has recently been used by some customers for brown patch and has gotten excellent results.
Humate--Humic acid is the result of decomposed plant or animal matter. It helps release locked-up nutrients, improves soil structure, and increases soil water-holding capacity.
Lava Sand--Crushed scoria, or volcanic slag. It has a texture full of holes which will help soil retain moisture. It is an excellent source of energy for the soil and makes nutrients more available to plant roots.
Rock Phosphate--An excellent source of phosphorus for plants that need it most, including all flowering plants, tomatoes, peppers, melons, and other garden vegetables.
Sul-Po-Mag--A source of sulphur, potassium, and magnesium. Excellent for root growth (great for potatoes and grasses).
